Earn
Auto-flip liquidity
Orders that flip between buying and selling and earn on every swing.
You place a ladder of orders across a price range; each one flips to the other side when it fills, and every round trip earns the gap between the two prices.
How a flip works
An auto-flip order is a limit order with a second price attached. When it fills completely, it turns into the opposite order at that second price.
This repeats for as long as the price moves back and forth through your range. Each fill pays the 0.2% maker fee, so a round trip costs about 0.4%, and the gap must be wider than that to make money. Lightbeam won't place a ladder whose flips would lose.
Adding liquidity
Open a market and choose the Liquidity tab.
-
Pick a shape. Each preset sets a starting range and how your money is spread across it:
- AMM curve: half to double the current price, deepest at the price and thinner further out, like a Kumbaya pool.
- Tight: about 10% either side, with most of the money close to the price. Best prices for small trades.
- Even: about 30% below to 43% above, the same amount at every price. Suits a market that swings.
-
Drag the range. Move either edge of the range on the chart. The scale is logarithmic, so equal distances are equal percentage moves.
-
Enter your amounts. An order book doesn't need the two tokens balanced like a pool, so add any amount of either, or both. The quote token is spread over buy orders below the price and the other token over sell orders above it. A range wholly below the price holds only buy orders; one wholly above holds only sell orders.
-
Add liquidity and confirm in your wallet.
Lightbeam places up to 40 orders, aiming for about 1% between neighbours (wider when the range is wide). Each order flips onto the next price along, so each flip earns one step.
Advanced settings
Press Advanced: set every order yourself to set every figure by hand:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Min and max price | The range |
| Market price | Buys go below it, sells above it |
| Number of orders | How many orders across the range |
| Profit per flip | The gap between an order and its flip |
| Curve | How the money is spread: Linear, Exponential, Sigmoid or Quadratic, with a strength |
| Auto or Single | Auto orders flip. Single orders are plain limit orders that don't |
| Lock | None, 1 week, 1 month or 1 year. A locked position can't be withdrawn until then |

Managing a position
Each ladder you add is a position. Find it on your wallet page under Liquidity. A position's page shows its value now, what your deposit would be worth now if you had simply held it, how many times its orders have flipped, and every order in it. Withdraw all cancels its orders and returns your tokens, including everything it has earned.
The risks
- The price can leave your range. If it falls below your range, your orders have all bought, and you hold only the token. If it rises above, they have all sold, and you hold only the other side. Your position is then worth less than if you had simply held, until the price comes back.
- Thin markets fill rarely. Flips only earn when someone trades through them.
Every fill of your orders is maker volume, so it also earns rewards.
