Limit orders

Buy or sell at a price you choose.

Use a limit order to buy below the market or sell above it without watching the screen.

Placing one

Open a market, choose Limit, then enter your price and amount. Any part that can fill against the book at your price or better fills straight away. The rest rests on the book until another trader fills it or you cancel it.

The form shows both fees, for example "0.2% maker, 0.5% if it fills now". The part that fills straight away is a taker and pays 0.5%. The part that rests is a maker and pays 0.2% when it fills.

Prices have four significant digits. If you type a price with more, the form tells you the price your order will go in at.

Limits on an order

  • Minimum size. The part of an order that rests on the book must be worth at least 0.0005 ETH, or 1 unit of a dollar token, so the book can't fill up with dust. A smaller order can still fill straight away; whatever is left under the minimum comes back to you.
  • 40 fills at a time. One order fills against at most 40 resting orders in a single transaction. If your price would reach past more than that, the form warns you first: after 40 fills, the rest of the order comes back to you instead of resting. Place it again to keep filling.

When it fills

You get paid on every fill, straight to your wallet, minus the fee. Fills that pay out in ETH arrive as wrapped ETH (WETH). Your wallet page has a button to unwrap it.

The bell in the menu lists your orders that other traders filled.

Both sides of every fill earn rewards: you earn as the maker when your order fills, and the other trader earns as the taker.

Cancelling

Open your wallet page, go to Orders and cancel any order at any time. The unfilled part comes straight back to you, and ETH comes back as ETH.
